The City of Hermiston installed an Membrane Bioreactor in 2014 to replace an existing RBC plant. The plant has been operating for over a year now with good results. The challenges associated with startup of a new membrane plant will be discussed. Other topics include the reasons for the upgrade to an MBR system, operation of the existing plant during the upgrade, the reuse capabilities of the plant, challenges associated with constructing a new surface water outfall for plant effluent, and the benefit of operator/manufacturer partnerships during the first year of operation.
