Retrofit This! Exploring Techniques in Optimizing RO Process
Overview:
In the RO industry, it is common for projects to encounter process, design, and operational issues. It’s not that these concerns couldn’t be identified early in project development; rather, many projects operate under the assumption that the RO process will function perfectly, free from complications. Typical problems include high solids loading from feed water sources, inadequate pretreatment performance, air locking in chemical pumps, frequent membrane cleanings, ineffective cleaning results, and complex data interpretation. In such circumstances, membrane lifespan deteriorates, leading to increased operation and maintenance costs at the water treatment plant.
Retrofitting to enhance process and design is a practical solution for addressing RO plant inadequacies. Whether the retrofit entails minor adjustments or significant overhauls, the improvements are evaluated in terms of membrane longevity and replacement costs. The likelihood of a proposed change being accepted increases with a shorter payback period.
Webinar Details and Agenda:
This presentation will highlight three main areas of the RO water treatment plant that commonly undergo retrofit modifications.
Part 1: Explores Chemical Injection
Part 2: Examines the RO system
Part 3: Focuses on the CIP process
Implementing sound design practices will also provide the added benefit of better membrane chemistry outcomes. All examples provided are based on real-world experiences from US & Canada RO plants.
What You’ll Learn:
- The impact of pretreatment strategy on membrane cleaning frequency and membrane life.
- The impact of RO plant design features on membrane cleaning frequency and membrane life.
- Most importantly, one will learn to ask more questions, visit more plant operators, and become an advocate for better RO process.
