The International Desalination Association (www.idadesal.org) was established 45 years ago and is a non-profit association that serves members and stakeholders in more than 60 countries. Its membership comprises scientists, end-users, engineers, consultants and researchers from governments, corporations and academia. IDA is associated with the United Nations as part of a growing international network of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). IDA has recently established its foundation, the IDA Sustainable Water Resources Foundation aimed to support education and knowledge sharing, (www.idaswrf.org).
IDA has a growing affiliate network that currently includes: AEDyR, AMTA, AWA, CaribDA, EDS, JDA, LDA, MIAC and WDEC and associate affiliates, APDA, Aladyr, InDA, KDPA, PakDA, SWA and WSTA.
IDA holds a biennial World Congress and exhibition and organizes regional seminars throughout the world. Members receive Desalination & Water Reuse quarterly magazine and IDA News, a bi-monthly newsletter, which examines industry trends and provides information on current events and the activities of regional affiliates. IDA also publishes an annual Membership Directory in addition to “The Desalting Plants Inventory” and “The ABCs of Desalting.” The website provides members with information on membership, publications and events as well as immediate access to the membership and publications database where members can search for other members and download papers from past IDA World Congresses.
Scholarships are provided to graduates pursuing an advanced degree in desalination or a related field, and a newly created foundation enables IDA to support desalination activities that lack sufficient financial resources.
