Desalinated and naturally soft water is corrosive because of its low pH value and lack of minerals, and therefore requires post-treatment for water stabilization and corrosion control. Conventional water remineralization can be achieved either by calcite contactors or lime dosing systems. Both of these techniques present some drawbacks for large desalination plants. In order to offer a more sustainable and safer alternative to the lime dosing system, Omya has developed a remineralization process using micronized calcium carbonate, called Omyaqua? Remineralization Process. In pilot operation the process met customer quality specifications for alkalinity, turbidity and LSI.
