After 51 years of operation The Irsch WTP (Germany) had become complicated to operate and was not meeting filtrate requirements. Pilot testing of two UF membrane configurations was performed to determine the best option for the facility. Option 1 treatment included sand filter/calcium carbonate filter/ UF membrane. Option 2 included Coagulation/UF membrane/ Calcium carbonate filter. After testing option 2 was chosen because it was less complicated, expensive and had better filtrate quality.
