This paper summarizes a research effort which examined electrodialysis metathesis (EDM) to treat concentrate. EDM has the potential to meet be a cost-effective water recovery method and an opportunity to concentrate solids into salt products. EDM provides two advantages in treating concentrate because it has a much higher rates of water recovery compared with RO, ED, or EDR and the two EDM concentrate streams can be blended in a series of treatment steps to produce salt products with the potential for beneficial use.
