In the past 8-10 years, MF and UF modules have become available to system integrators from membrane manufacturers who only sell modules, much the same sales process as for the RO elements. This is a new business model compared to previously when the system integrators had their own proprietary MF/UF membranes. This non-proprietary model has resulted in system integrators gaining experience building systems with modules from a number of different suppliers. These MF/UF systems are designed for either one type of module or more recently as open platform systems designed to use modules from several suppliers. This presentation will describe the design differences for modules from a range of MF/UF suppliers, including some full-scale case studies, and how these differences can be incorporated into open platform/universal MF/UF systems.
