Biological design of a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) is different than for a Conventional Activated Sludge (CAS) process. Because of the interrelationship between process conditions and membrane filtration several design considerations are unique to MBR. This paper provides a step-by-step approach to MBR process design including sample diagrams and layouts. Some information is provided for the North Las Vegas WRF.
