Although seawater desalination has been broadly implemented around the globe, historically there have been no comprehensive studies examining the impact of integrating desalinated seawater into existing distribution systems historically utilizing more conventional sources of supply with widely varying water quality. WRF-15-06 addresses that research gap at a critical juncture in the US water industry, examining key water quality effects using the new Carlsbad SWRO plant as a case study and leveraging the acquired knowledge to benefit the strategic implementation of several other large-scale SWRO facilities planned across the US.
