A case study on the discovery of PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) in the Cape Fear River source water of Brunswick County’s Northwest Water Treatment Plant and the evaluation of advanced treatment options for the expanded 36 mgd surface water facility. Details of the Low Pressure Reverse Osmosis Membrane Pilot Study will be provided as well as regulatory challenges. The presentation will highlight the importance of using membrane technology for the removal of PFAS contaminants as regulations continue to evolve for these ubiquitous “forever” chemicals.
