This presentation discusses the trade-offs of using chloramination in water distribution systems. The presentation covers the history of chloramine use, the trade-offs to expect and more specifically problems with nitrification. Also discussed is the release of ammonia from chloramine decay. Focus then shifts to pilot testing to confirm that enhanced natural organic matter (NOM) removal and pH adjustment can minimize nitrification problems. Pilot data and pre and post testing results are discussed in detail.
