As membrane technologies mature, new innovations are being introduced. Although most of these changes are incremental, they continue to improve reliability, reduce cost, and mitigate
environmental impacts. This presentation reviews the global desal capacity, seawater desalination costs, and the characteristics of some of the worlds largest desalination facilities. It also reviews why membrane applications continue to grow including limited water supply options, membrane advances, process innovations, and energy cost reductions.
