Direct, non-biological microfiltration (MF) of primary effluent has been tested at a number of locations over the last decade, including in the USA. Pilot testing of an MF system treating primary effluent was carried out at the City of Corona, CA, Treatment Plant No. 2. During th planned 4-month pilot test utilizing a Pall Corporation 0.1 micron PvDF membrane, the MF unit was operated continuously at a production rate of about 6.5 gal/min and a flux of 18 gfd. This paper documents the results of this pilot study.
