Experiment with willows to treat RO concentrate at Torreele? s water re-use facility in Flanders, Belgium. The Torreele facility produces infiltration water (since July 2002) for indirect potable re-use through artificial recharge of the dune aquifer of St-Andr‚. The secondary wastewater effluent is treated by a combination of membrane techniques : ultrafiltration (UF), using the submerged ZeeWeed system, as the pre-treatment for reverse osmosis (RO), using brackish water low energy membranes. The paper and presentation will focus on the results of the first year of operation. It has been noticed that the species showing the best tolerance in 2010 also grow best in the larger test field. The quality improvement is similar to tests using Phragmites but also phosphorous is removed.
