In some regions, the extraction of fresh groundwater may be accompanied by the upconing of brackish water. A possible treatment and resource management approach is the ?Freshkeeper? concept. The brackish water is desalinated and the concentrate is disposed of in a deeper, confined aquifer. The fresh-brackish interface in the source aquifer is stabilized by simultaneous abstraction of the fresh and brackish fractions.
