An in depth discussion of environmental (green house gas emmissions) and cost factors is developed for three high profile desalination projects: Luggage Point, Australia; Australian Commonwealth Territory and Carlsbad, CA. The methodology employed is being utilized by the California Coastal Commision and identifies the costs and benefits, feasibility and permitability of proposed seawater desalination facilities. It also provides suggestions for possible mitigation measures.
