Intelligent Micro-Disrupting Parallel and Cascading Train Reverse Osmosis (IMPACT-RO™ -) is a patented technology (US & International) that provides for reduction of flux distribution without concentrate recycling and allows for controlled hydraulic disruption of the concentration polarization (CP) layer to reduce scale formation across multi-stage brackish water desalination systems. The technology reduces total cost of water production via reduction in energy consumption, membrane fouling, CIP frequency, while allowing higher recoveries than traditional brackish RO systems. Benefits of this technology can be optimized to meet varying priorities for customers. IMPACT-RO™ can be designed to minimize the OPEX and extend membrane lifetime and the operation time between each CIP. Where higher recovery is desirable, IMPACT-RO™ features allow recoveries close to the saturation limit of the water with OPEX comparable to traditional brackish RO systems. Pilot data shows that the flux balancing feature reduces energy consumption by 4-10%. More importantly, data indicates that during micro-disruption, membrane CP layer is diluted (disrupted) temporarily by greater than 50% allowing for removal of scale seeds between the induction and precipitation cycle. The design of IMPACT-RO™ also allows for reduction in mechanical installation cost for the CIP process along with the downtime during the CIP to further improve the uptime operations of the RO.
