Despite efforts toward creating a balanced water supply portfolio, South Coast Water District is currently relying on imported water for 85-100 percent of its water supply needs. This presentation will provide an introduction to the District’s planned seawater desalination project at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA. Topics will include an overview of Project design features including subsurface slant well technology, environmentally responsible brine disposal, and the alternative power supply investigation that identified natural gas fuel cells as a viable source of onsite power. The timeline for the Project to begin producing water is 2021.
