Results of 2 bench-scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) experiments designed, constructed and operated at the U.S. Coast Card Academy to treat shipboard gray water. Paper includes review of literature, national and international regulations addressing discharge of waste water into the sea. It discusses shipboard gray water composition, generation and potential use as ballast.
