This paper addresses the trouble by bio-fouling in the desalination and presents a method for predicting the minimum chlorine concentration and injection time for controlling bio-fouling. Concerning research of RO membrane module suitable for a large-sized desalination plant, the large-sized RO module of the BOE type which is a new structure was designed using the modified performance analysis method. This large-sized RO module is used for the large-sized desalination plants of 200,000m3/d in the Middle East. The results of these research efforts contribute to progress of the RO method for seawater desalination and are expected to become an aid to solution of the water shortage in the 21st century.
