Ion-exchange membranes can be used in different applications and sectors, from seawater desalination to selective separation in industrial water treatment. However, the transport of organics, and potential contamination of produced water streams, in ion-exchange membranes has not been studied thoroughly yet. This research looks into the effects of the solution matrix composition and the properties of the organics on their transport characteristics.
