The dry southern coastal region of Peru is water poor and mineral rich. Mining and processing metals such as copper require large quantities of freshwater which is a scarcity in the region. Copper economics are favorable for the development of desalination as a water resource. This presentation evaluates four intake configurations (open ocean, 2 or 3 Ranney wells, and beach gallery) for technical feasibility, costs and operation. A beach gallery is recommended.
