UF/MF Technologies: Operation and Troubleshooting

This session will provide an overview of MF/UF systems in operation and will discuss troubleshooting of these membranes in several applications including water and wastewater treatment. Among these examples include applications of MF/UF technology for RO pretreatment, industrial wastewater treatment and reuse, domestic wastewater treatment, groundwater treatment, and tertiary wastewater treatment. General fouling types and trends along with best practices for online and offline cleaning will be discussed. Performance evaluation using membrane integrity monitoring and testing will demonstrate the fouling potential or condition of the membrane as well as to evaluate membrane permeability. Alongside troubleshooting and monitoring techniques, innovative and emerging technologies for fouling prevention will be introduced that can assist to maintain sustainable membrane operation whilst reducing cleaning frequencies.
