Racine Water Utility (RWU) implemented ultrafiltration treatment for pathogen removal as the final step in the drinking water treatment following conventional coagulation, flocculation, settlement, and filtration on water from Lake Michigan. Over a period of eight years RWU refined the equipment, operation and maintenance of the ultrafiltration process. There remains the issue of how long will the ultrafiltration membranes last in applications such as this one.
