As membrane technologies have evolved, ever increasing knowledge about municipal UF/MF membrane system use has been obtained to consider the reality of life cycle costs over 20 year periods. This presentation will focus on the membrane replacement and maintenance life of several Lake Michigan treatment technologies, each of which has a varying degree of pretreatment and membrane module type. The presentation will demonstrate what defines membrane replacement and how modules and systems have been replaced since the first MF facility on Lake Michigan (Kenosha, WI) went on line in 1999.
